Widemouth Bay Car Park Changes
As part of the Making Space for Sand project Cornwall Council is improving the upper car park at Widemouth Bay and closing off most of the lower car park. This will allow the sand to accumulate and form a natural dune to protect the road and houses behind from the sea and the increasing number of violent storms.
The upper car park is being smoothed out to create more useable space and a mesh system will be employed to provide more stable parking.
Once the works are completed, the whole area will be seeded with a combination of coastal grasses and wildflowers to restore the current natural appearance.
This work has only been authorised following a detailed survey to ensure valuable plants and wildlife will be protected. Public areas have also been maintained to ensure the car park can continue to be enjoyed as an outdoor space as before.
The project is weather dependent but it is hoped that work will begin late February/early March with completion by the end of June at the latest.
Please note, the car park is owned by Cornwall County Council and Poundstock Parish Council is not involved in any way.
The new layout plan is available to download below.
